Facebook continues to warn advertisers about the effects of the privacy and tracking changes that Apple has planned for iOS 14. In another chapter of the battle between Epic Games and Apple, the game company is now appealing to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) against Apple’s “anti-competitive” practices regarding the App Store. According to Epic, Apple’s conduct and “unrestrained market power” can result in “significant harm” to consumers. As reported by the Australian Financial Review, Epic Games sued Apple in Australia last year after the Cupertino-based company removed Fortnite from the App Store....

The European Union on Thursday night unveiled more details about its plans to curb anti-competitive practices among big tech companies. With the rules of the new Digital Markets Act (DMA), Europe wants all major messaging apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and iMessage to have an interoperable platform. The DMA targets companies that have at least 45 million monthly active end users or 10,000 annually active corporate users in Europe. While the antitrust legislation was already expected to have impacts on how the App Store operates, it may also cause changes to Apple’s iMessage....

We’ve seen bans on public agencies or police departments using face recognition technology, and now one US city has gone even further, extending a ban to private companies too … TNW reports that Portland has introduced the far more extensive ban.
