Warning: The Last God is a MATURE Title

What seemed like a promising fantasy story of horror more than delivered with The Last God first issue, establishing a world where evil gods and darkness had been vanquished for good, beginning an age of heroes. And then just as quickly, revealed that was all a dream… and it was about to end in gruesome fashion.

The new series from DC Black Label is tasked with telling two different, but intertwined stories: the heroes who traveled off the edge of the world to end an evil scourge by killing the last living god, ushering in a new age for the realm of Cain Anuun, and the innocent people who will pay for that lie thirty years into the future. But as further proof that this story is still not what readers assume, our exclusive preview of The Last God #2 is heading back to the very, very beginning of the tale. When the great King Tyr was merely a soldier… about to encounter a living nightmare.

The first did a good job of introducing the two ‘hero warriors’ of the story, with Tyr and his band of champions in the past, and Eyvindr the gladiator who seems to be much. much more (interested readers can find a free preview of The Last God #1 here). But when we spoke with writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson about the story, he pointed out the true protagonist, if The Last God could have just one:

That’s a perfect setup for our preview of The Last God #2, first introducing Tyr who, along with his brother Torma, seems to discover the strange flowering plague turning innocent people into twisted, gnarled monstrosities. While thirty years later in the age of Tyrgolad, Queen Cyanthe swoops in to save the new champion, Eyvindr. Even if she’s yet to reveal how much she actually knows about the hero he may become. Take a look at the preview pages below, along with the official solicitation details for The Last God #2, releasing November 27th, 2019.

If there was only one main character it would be Queen Cyanthe, who we see briefly enough in the first issue. But when we’re seeing Tyr in the flashbacks making his bones, we’re also seeing this young girl queen Cyanthe. Tyr is a reaver, and he finds Cyanthe. We see the events of the first fellowship mostly through her eyes. We see how she grows from small and weak to capable and powerful, and eventually disenchanted and bitter. They was supposed to be this fellowship of heroes, and one by one let eachother down. They let their quest change them, and Cyanthe is the last one to turn. We see her in the present day thirty years later, and now she has a very different perspective than the point of view of the slave. Cyanthe and Eyvindr are the two characters we see most clearly.
