Poltergeist has terrified audiences over the course of three films and a 2015 remake, and here’s how the franchise ranks, worst to best. While there’s long been controversy over who exactly directed 1982’s original Poltergeist film (some involved say credited director Tobe Hooper, others insist it was producer Steven Spielberg), the end result still holds up as a masterpiece of horror filmmaking. It’s also one of the rare horror classics from the 1980s to not carry an R-rating, or include graphic gore....

There’s certainly no shortage of buzz around health tracking and fitness-related products and software these days, and Facebook is making sure it its not going to be left out of the race (there’s also no shortage of Facebook acquisitions). Finnish company ProtoGeo Oy, the developers behind the iPhone and Android fitness app Moves (seen above), has been acquired by Facebook as it posted this on its site today: The company also rounded out its announcement with a thank you to customers for making its product a success and the standard promise that data gathered by the service won’t “commingle” with Facebook, but such promises are mostly “feel good” reassurances and surely have no legal merit especially with the “there are no plans” qualifier....

In part of Apple’s defence to the Epic Games lawsuit, the Cupertino company effectively accuses the Fortnite developer of filing the case as a publicity stunt. Apple also says that Epic had little to lose because iOS is not a big revenue-generator for the company … The Verge spotted the claim in Apple’s 37-page opposition brief to the injunction sought by Epic, which would force Apple to restore Fortnite to the App Store until the outcome of the full trial....

It’s well-known that Anderson’s original cut of Event Horizon was much longer, and was filled with both even more horrifying hell scenes and additional plot details. The theatrical, and to date only released cut of Event Horizon is certainly fast-paced, but to its detriment at times, as events and character motivations are quickly glossed over without time to explain or absorb them. Yet, what’s there has still managed to earn a legion of devoted followers....

Facebook 2FA (two-factor authentication) will become mandatory for accounts likely to be targeted by hackers. The move is one of a range of protections offered to high-risk accounts in order to reduce the likelihood of interference in elections. 2FA means that in addition to a password being required to login to the account from a new device, a 6-digit security code is also needed. This code is either supplied by an authenticator app, or is auto-filled on a device running iOS 15....

While it hasn’t yet been confirmed by FX, Adam Reed has announced his plans to leave Archer after the current season, season 10. 10 seasons is a good place to stop. It makes a nice, clean box set to have a round number like 10. On the other hand, it’ll be a shame to see Archer go. It’s been one of the funniest, freshest, most inventive animated comedies on the air since 2009, with the voice acting and the writing going hand-in-hand to deliver the goods....

The season finale is usually the biggest episode of any show’s current run. Most show’s use this episode to tie up all the loose ends, conclude the season’s biggest storylines, and maybe even leave the fan’s anticipating what’s to come next season. That’s what most show’s do, but Seinfeld is not most shows. It can be easy to forget just how much Seinfeld changed the television sitcom forever. It’s unusual humor, everyday misadventures and generally unlikable main characters were ground-breaking....

Karen Gillan has shared her hopes for Jumanji 3, including who she wants to “play” her in-game character Ruby Roundhouse during the movie. Dubset has announced that hundreds of its DJ mixes are now available on Apple Music, including three exclusive sets. Dubset mixes are treated as albums. It follows a deal first struck with Apple back in 2016, though it took several months before single-track mixes made it to Apple Music. The company seems to be moving at a very slow pace, it took more than a year between submitting mixes and beginning the approval process....

Europe’s controversial Copyright Directive has been approved after a previous version was rejected back in July. Although intended to protect the rights of copyright owners, it’s likely to prove a headache for both Google’s search engine and its YouTube video platform … The controversy centers on two articles, 11 and 13. These have been described as a ‘link tax’ and ‘upload filter’ respectively. Article 11 protects the copyright of written content on websites, with news stories a key example....

The groundbreaking anime of the ’90s, Neon Genesis Evangelion, is finally streaming on Netflix. Set in the not too distant future—for the time, of course—of 2015, the Earth is under repeated attacks from alien monsters, who appear in multiple forms, known as angels. Humanity’s only hope for survival comes from the Evas; giant fighting robots piloted by specially chosen children, Shinji, Rei, and Asuka. Psychically linked to their machines, the Eva pilots are charged with safeguarding humanity from the threat of total annihilation, which, to put it lightly, puts a lot of psychological and emotional pressure on each of the kids....

In a keynote talk at the annual DICE summit this week, Epic Games’ Tim Sweeney made sweeping statements about the inclusion of politics in video games, and his own views that video games should be published to a political “neutral ground” in terms of marketing. Tim Sweeney is the founder and CEO of Epic Games, a video game development company first launched in 1991, and one which now boats its own Epic Games Store, an online digital storefront, as of December of 2018....
